Apple Music Simplifies Playlist Transfers to YouTube Music

Apple Music has introduced a new feature that enables users to move their playlists over to YouTube Music. Initially, the feature allows this transfer only between these two services, despite the company's mention of other possibilities. Users can transfer only their own playlists or those made collaboratively. However, the actual music files or the organizational folders for these playlists cannot be moved through this method.

Information about the new playlist transfer capability has been shared on a recently updated support page. According to the company, users can initiate the transfer of their Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music directly from the Data and Privacy settings on their accounts.

In order to initiate the transfer, users must hold a current subscription to either Apple Music or iTunes Match alongside a legitimate YouTube Music account. Typically, the conversion duration is a matter of minutes; however, it can extend to several hours, depending on the volume and size of the playlists involved.

Currently, the transfer only applies to playlists created by the user, which also encompasses any collaborative playlists they control. However, playlists that are shared but not collaboratively, along with curated playlists and the original music files, cannot be transferred. Moreover, the organizational folders of playlists within Apple Music are excluded from the transfer option.

It's important to note that only songs available on YouTube Music can be included in the transferred playlists. Any exclusive tracks, podcasts, or audiobooks will not carry over. The original playlists remain intact in Apple Music even after the transfer is completed.

Instructions for transferring Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music can be found in detailed support documentation.
